Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall” is truly the film that all romance comedies are measured against. Winner of the Best Picture Academy Award in 1977, it set a precedent for movies that are witty, heartfelt, without a traditional “happy” ending.
At its center was Diane Keaton as the incomparable Annie Hall. She was cerebral and pretty, vulnerable and searching for love, stylish and ultimately iconic. In real life, Keaton was dating director Allen. Their relationship ended, but their friendship continues to this very day. Perhaps it was their close bond that allowed for Diane to fully become Annie Hall in her own personal and unique way.
Famous for her ties and masculine style, Annie Hall embodied what it was to be a New York gal of the 1970’s. No one else dressed like her, and while many have tried since, there is no comparison to the trailblazing fashions of Annie. Here are some pieces that totally remind me of her. And with Halloween coming up, an Annie Hall costume is as easy as throwing on some khakis, a vest, and a tie.
