If you’ve read Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” or are familiar with David Fincher’s 2011 adaptation, then you are certainly acquainted with the tattooed girl herself, Lisbeth Salander. She’s a rebel. She’s androgynous. She’s smart as hell, but with a subdued quietness that is at once calm and unnerving. She’s sexy in an effortless way that is hard to capture, let alone recreate.
Throughout the film, Rooney Mara, as Lisbeth, leans towards the dark. Dark clothes, dark hair, many piercings, and, of course, tattoos. In one scene, she opens the door to Mikael (played by Daniel Craig), in a condemning, tattered tee that reads, “Fuck you you fucking fuck.” Lisbeth is the ultimate risk-taker and her style is no exception.
Without adapting her look verbatim (well, except for the “fucking” T-shirt), I’ve found some pieces that I think perfectly capture the essence of Lisbeth. The most valuable thing to take from Lisbeth, though, is to be unapologetically yourself.
