There’s no doubt that Molly Ringwald is a poster child of the 80’s. One of her most recognized roles? Andie Walsh in prolific director John Hughes’s 1986 classic, “Pretty in Pink.” She’s a total 80’s teenager. Rebellious and dissatisfied. She spends her days working in a record store or hanging out with her bestie, Duckie (who harbors bit of a crush on Andie). She’s a romantic at heart, and it shows in her affinity for pink. But because of her economic circumstances, her clothes are often homemade or thrifted. She’s totally a tastemaker– something for which she catches a lot of flack from her popular classmates. Still, she remains utterly, invincibly herself.
Who can forget the iconic, homemade, pink prom dress from the final scenes of the film? It’s gaudy and kind of awful… but incredible at the same time. I found some pieces that might suit the Andie Walshes of the 2010s— pink, frilly, and with a little bit of a silly 80’s edge.
