Ah, Paris! Easily the most charming city in the world, it is at once old and new, big and small, classic and innovative. The City of Lights is often used as a film set, but perhaps never so fantastically as in Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 2001 romance “Amelie.”
Amelie is a sweet, shy waitress working at a restaurant in Montmartre. Her life is simple: from her delight in eating raspberries off her fingertips to the short bob she sports on her head. And her missive in life is equally simplistic— to make people happy. To make strangers happy, in fact. And ultimately, this leads her down a path towards love.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Parisian film without an element of style. She’s certainly not prancing around in haute couture on a waitress’s salary, but her wardrobe is timeless, pretty, functional, even retro at times. She doesn’t care to draw much attention, but her clothes reflect her true character’s self.
Here are some pieces I think Amelie would be smitten with.
