Penny Lane (played by Kate Hudson) is the blonde, spiral-haired free spirit in Cameron Crowe’s autobiographical 2000 film, “Almost Famous.” She was also a real person. She is pure 70’s groupie — excuse me, “band-aid.” Her style is both a product of the decade and something altogether her own. Despite spending most of her life on the road, she is always immaculately put together… or wearing nothing at all.
She’s almost not quite human. She’s the wild child rock star we at once want to be and yet pity. She’s feminine-hippie-chic: white, flowy, sheer blouses, lace accents, and fur trim— pieces she carries confidently with her characteristic hard exterior, which is ultimately masking a vulnerable interior.
I found some pieces that are close to Penny’s style, but with more of a modern update. Who knows? Maybe she’d be wearing these looks if she was a “band-aid” of some of our current rock bands.
